India conducted the eighth successful test of Agni-V missile

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully test-fired Agni-V surface-to-surface ballistic missile on 27 October 2021.

The test-firing was done from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. This one is the 8th successful test launch of Agni-V. With this, India has become the fifth country in the world to develop such missiles. Till now only America, Russia, France, and China had such missiles.

India's Defense Ministry said that the successful test of Agni-V is in line with India's stated policy of having reliable minimum deterrence which underlines its commitment of "no first use".

The missile has been successfully test-fired five times and is in the process of being inducted into the Army. The victorious test-fire of the surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-V also comes between the ongoing border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh.

Agni V Missile

The idea of setting up IGMDP was given by renowned scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam so that India can become self-reliant in the field of missile technology. It was approved by the Government of India in the year 1983 and its work was completed in March 2012.

The V missiles developed under this program are P-A-T-N-A, Prithvi, Agni, Trishul, Naag, Akash.
